Directed Independent Study Modules

PHI9XA/PHI9XB Electives, 2009/2010

Available to students in the final year of Honours programmes

Electives are modules of Directed Independent Study. The work you do on such modules is ‘directed’ in the sense that guidance is provided by staff taking the module. However, the aim is that students should research independently on a topic or series of topics. The guidance is designed to encourage and assist you in this and provide you with feedback on your ideas.

PHI9XA Special Topics and PHI9XB Classic Papers are each worth 11 credits; the two together are the equivalent of one standard module. Students who take PHI9XA in Autumn 2009 must also take PHI9XB in Spring 2010.

Please note that special registration arrangements apply to the Special Topic Elective PHI9XA. You cannot choose your Selected Topic on-line.  Instead you must

  • register for PHI9XA on line;
  • notify the Department Office by May 28th 2009 of your first, second and third preferences for Elective topics as not all electives will run.
