Directed Independent Study

Students taking Single Honours in Philosophy must take at least 22 credits (the equivalent of one standard module) of Directed Independent Study.  This may take the form of an Elective (PHI9X8 22 credits, taken in Spring) or a Dissertation (either the 22 credit dissertation PHI9ZZ, taken in the Spring, or the 44 credit Dissertation PHI9YY, taken over Autumn and Spring semesters).

Electives PHI9X8 and Dissertation PHI9ZZ are also available to students in most Combined Honours programmes.

The links below give further details of the two forms of Directed Independent Study. The advice page, Which form of Directed Independent Study should you choose?, summarizes some of the things you should think about before making your choice.
